Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, part of the technology group Wärtsilä, has received an order to supply a biogas upgrading plant (PuregasCA) for Danish renewable energy solutions provider Bigadan AS. The facility will play a key role in increasing the efficiency and usability of biogas as a renewable energy source, with an upgrading capacity of 6,000 Nm³ per hour of raw biogas. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in Q3 2025.
The project represents a significant step in increasing energy production and biogas utilization in Denmark and will make an important contribution to the country’s green transformation. The plant will be located at Bigadan’s biogas facility in Horsens.
Wärtsilä Gas Solutions’ solution is based on amine scrubber technology, which enables efficient and effective biogas upgrading to meet Danish gas grid standards.
“We are committed to supporting and promoting the green transformation, and Wärtsilä’s biogas upgrading solution will strengthen our efforts. This is an exciting example of renewable energy technology development. Biogas has enormous potential as a sustainable energy source, as it aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner energy sources,” comment Casper Krog Hansen, Project Manager at Bigadan AS, and Christian A. Tidmarsh, Business Development Manager at Bigadan AS.
The Wärtsilä PuregasCA solution is expected to be fully implemented and operational in Q3 2026, delivering upgraded gas to the Danish national gas grid. Wärtsilä’s scope of work includes installation and commissioning of the plant.
“The integration of biomass and biogas, together with wind and solar energy, is an essential element in creating a comprehensive energy strategy, and the cooperation between Wärtsilä and Bigadan contributes significantly to its implementation. The innovative technology we are able to deliver is based on our extensive experience and deep internal knowledge, and our established reputation and track record were important factors in awarding this contract,” says Goran Gajski, Sales Manager, Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, Biogas.
